artists statement: 2022
My paintings always had a dimensional quality, but I did not make freestanding  installations or sculptures before 2015.
City Blocks, my first sculptures, were made of small painted wooden blocks . In 2016  I made sculptures of cardboard boxes.
Using  color as one of the  elements I was  able to  direct the eye and relate them to  the geometric and architectural  themes from my  past  wall constructions and paintings.   (photos at bottom of this page).  I loved the flexibility of being able to  freely arrange and rearrange , photographing and learning from all the variations.  I continued exploring sculpture  in  temporary  public installations  even after I learned to weld and was able to make  large scale metal sculptures with concrete footings.
