  "These Sampler sculptures replace the embroidery floss of a needlepoint sampler  with cut and welded aluminum. Traditional handsewn samplers are often formatted in rows of different stitches and patters, usually created by women to practice or demonstrate sewing skills. By borrowing that format but radically reinterpreting the medium, Collens shifts the gendered associations of controlled refinement to create playful objects full of movement."
